The Physics of Space Battles →
This is a complex, but incredibly thorough and well thought out summary of a conversation I’ve had dozens of times (often while drunk).  When we finally reach the stars, what crazy tech will we use to keep blowing each other up?  And, more improtantly, what movie got it right? (via Gizmodo)

Ch Ch Changes
So as you can see, a few things have changed.  The most obvious is that “weapons of mass production” is no more (there will be a bit of a memorial in shirt form coming soon), but “Pithy Helmet” is more than just a name change.  Over the next few weeks I’ve got a gradual content rollout planned that I’m hoping will be a good way to indulge my current obsesions...

Reading Material
So thanks to The New Yorker I’ve got two great short stories for you.  First is Premium Harmony, a great little slice of life with a dark as hell ending from Stephen King.  After Mr. King kills your happy mood, go get it back with Woody Allen’s Think Hard, It’ll Come Back to You.  It’s a cool modern sci-fi piece, and the first sentence alone is worth your time.  Enjoy.

About damn time somebody thought of this.  I just wish I had done it first.  Coming in early 2010, you can pre-order now for $9.95.  Seems like a no-brainer. (via Gizmodo)

Do Speedy Math in Your Head - Wired How-To →
I love crazy high concept physics type math, but mental calculations were always my downfall in school.  It’s one of the things that a really wish I was better at.  These seem like some great tricks to help with quick common mental math. Plus it’s a wiki so feel free to add more if you know them.

Scenes From An Alternate Universe Where The... →
I’m a huge fan of alternate histories and this is one of the best I’ve read in years.  I can’t imagine a single thing that would have changed the world in a positive way more than The Beatles staying together and making music well into their old age.  Throw in some quantum physics and a time traveling Ringo Starr, and you’ve got yourself a supurlative piece of...

"Slingers" sizzle reel →
This is the sci-fi show you never knew you always wanted to see.  I can’t decide whether “Mad Men meets Firefly” or “Oceans 11 in space” sells it better.

In Retrospect...
Spoiler alert: this is gonna be a long one.  I have quite a bit to say right now and, since it’s the middle of the night, no one to really say it to.  So if you read this and hang on with me to the end I appreciate it.  If you get some insight or enjoyment out of it, well that’s even better.  I’m not sure how good it is, but I think it might be the most honest thing I’ve...

In Cahoots...
Sense of Smell: Doesn't that peanut sauce smell awesome!
Me: Mmm! Oh man, yeah.
Sense of Smell: Why don't you have a taste.
Me: Don't mind if I do.
Sense of Taste: Ha! Gotcha bitch!
Me: Oh Jesus Fuck that's terrible! What the hell guys?
Sense of Smell: Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and hurt you!
